Men are completely obsessed with sex, as is evidenced by Drudge putting up a headline about an ancient dildo. Come on, Matt, is that really necessary?

And to put the headline in all caps? Really, really necessary?

I've been half-heartedly following the London-Brazilian shooting furor over the past few days and have read both sides of the argument. Brit Prim Minister Blair defends the police force's actions that killed a young Brazilian man running from police as a mistaken terrorist, and Brazil posts protests and sends angry letters. Normally, there is one side that takes all of the blame. Some people are placing full blame on the London Police, others are saying that the Brazilian man shouldn't have been running from the cops in the first place. In the end, both sides are right.

If nothing else, this is one case of a supreme tragedy in which both parties involved in the shooting, both the victim and the aggressors, bear some responsibility.

Argument: He should not have been running from the police.
Response: Good point, but the man did not speak English very well and who knows what reputation the Brazilian police have out on the streets. The man may very well have thought that the men rushing him were street mafia or something (although I doubt a group of British cops would resemble street mafia). Those who have nothing to hide, hide nothing. This fellow ran because he didn't want the cops to find out about something out there.

Argument: He should not have been wearing a parka in hot weather on the subway while obviously bearing resemblance to nationalities of non-English origin.
Response: True. Wearing heavy clothes during warm weather in a target recently recovering from a string of terrorists attacks is NOT a smart idea. I mean, after 9-11, I didn't go buy a burkha and run around buying one-way plane tickets all over the country. It's just not smart.

Argument: The London Police should not "shoot-on-site."
Response: It's up to Great Britain to decide which policies best defend the nation. These upstanding fellows were perhaps a bit trigger-happy following the terrorist activity in London, but who can blame them? I'm not absolving them wholly of the culpability of the death of the Brazilian, but I do sympathize with them.

You see, not one side can take full responsiblity. If the man had never dressed inappropriately and acted suspiciously, he would never have been singled out by the cops. If the man had not run from the police, he would not have been shot. If the police had perhaps tried harder to apprehend as opposed to obliterate, the results may have been different.

It was an accident, a tragedy, and an eye-opening awareness of the high tensions running through London right now.

But I think the London Police are doing the best they can.

Holy Crap Update: Blogdrive is updating the servers, so posts are disappearing randomly, the tagboard isn't functioning properly, the disable-comments feature doesn't work. I'm screwed!

California's propaganda outlet is at it again...this time publishing a ridiculous piece by one Jonathan Chait about how President Bush excercises too much.

And there's this gem of conspiracy theory goodness:

Given the importance of his job, it is astonishing how much time Bush has to exercise. His full schedule is not publicly available. The few peeks we get at Bush's daily routine usually come when some sort of disaster prods the White House Press Office to reveal what the president was doing "at the time." Earlier this year, an airplane wandered into restricted Washington air space. Bush, we learned, was bicycling in Maryland. In 2001, a gunman fired shots at the White House. Bush was inside exercising. When planes struck the World Trade Center in 2001, Bush was reading to schoolchildren, but that morning he had gone for a long run with a reporter. Either this is a series of coincidences or Bush spends an enormous amount of time working out.

Judging by his focus on such an unimportant matter, it's safe to assume that Mr. Chait is a simply an orangutan posing as a balding, thirty-something journalist. That leads us to the question:

London has been attacked again. This comes days after the Prime Minister pledged an "open dialogue" with the Muslim community, proving that Muslim extremists don't care who, when, or how--as long as they're dead.

If ONE MORE person asks me if I have read the latest Rowling book, Harry Potter and the Half-Mutt Dog (or whatever the heck it is), I am going to start breaking kneecaps!

*Public Disclaimer* I have read about 1/3 of the first book and watched about 1/3 of the second movie. Both bored me to the point of near-death (aside from the fact that I think the whole Rowling enterprise is morally corrupt).

What's REALLY irritating is that people are so shocked when they find out I haven't read Harry Potter.

DeoDuce, you're a college student working on your business degree, and you haven't read this really cool kid's book about stuff moving around the room in a suspicious manner???!!!!! OMG??!!!

What really got my goat was my employer's shock-and-awe at my dislike of Potter nonsense yesterday. She proceeded to lecture me for a good 10 minutes that she is addicted to them and that I would really enjoy them.

Through gritted teeth I replied: Hm.
